SEXUAL ASSAULT LITIGATION
Trauma-informed civil advocacy.
After sexual assault, some survivors may wish to explore civil legal options for accountability, compensation, or other remedies. Civil litigation is separate from the criminal process and may be available even where there has not been a criminal charge or conviction, though limitation periods and evidentiary issues may affect the options available.
PATH assists with sexual assault civil litigation matters that fall within our mandate. We approach this work with care, respect for client autonomy, and an understanding that deciding whether to take legal action after sexual violence can be deeply personal and difficult.
How We Can Help
PATH may be able to assist with:
Helping survivors understand civil legal options after sexual assault
Reviewing potential claims
Preparing civil pleadings and court materials where appropriate
Gathering documents, records, and evidence in a trauma-informed way
Supporting clients through settlement discussions, litigation steps, or court processes
Working to reduce re-traumatization throughout the legal process
