ABOUT PATH
OUR STORY
How PATH began, and the values that guide our work.
PATH Legal was founded in the fall of 2022 by Emma Halpern and Mike Dull after years of seeing how racism, colonialism, sexism, poverty, incarceration, and other forms of systemic oppression create real barriers to justice across Atlantic Canada.
PATH was created to respond to those barriers with legal services that are compassionate, rigorous, trauma-informed, and accessible. Our work is grounded in the belief that people deserve to be met with dignity, listened to carefully, and supported in ways that reflect the realities of their lives.
When a matter falls within our mandate, we assist clients with release planning, parole matters, correctional discipline hearings, habeas corpus and judicial review applications, police and human rights complaints, restorative justice processes, civil claims, and other legal issues connected to prisons, policing, state accountability, and systemic harm. In select cases, we also collaborate with community partners and other lawyers to strengthen the support available to clients.
PATH’s work extends beyond individual casework. We are active in the legal and community sectors through public education, media engagement, law reform, mentorship, and collaboration with organizations working toward a more just and accountable legal system.
