PAROLE APPEALS

Reviewing decisions. Challenging unfairness.

A parole appeal is a process for asking the Parole Board of Canada’s Appeal Division to review certain parole-related decisions. Appeals may involve concerns about legal errors, factual errors, procedural unfairness, missing information, unreasonable conditions, or decisions that do not properly account for the evidence.

PATH assists with parole appeals that fall within our mandate. We may review the parole decision, identify possible grounds of appeal, gather relevant records and release planning materials, and prepare written submissions focused on fairness, accuracy, and meaningful review.

How We Can Help

PATH may be able to assist with:

  • Reviewing parole decisions for possible legal, factual, or procedural errors

  • Helping clients understand the reasons for a denial, suspension, revocation, or cancellation

  • Preparing written appeal submissions

  • Helping clients understand possible outcomes and next steps after an appeal

  • Summary advice for individuals filing on appeal on their own behalf

What to Expect

If your matter appears to fall within PATH’s mandate, we may ask for the parole decision, hearing information, case management records, release plan materials, support letters, and any relevant deadlines. We will review the decision to assess whether there may be legal, factual, or procedural concerns that could support an appeal.
