ADMINISTRATIVE LAW

Administrative law deals with decisions made by different government departments, like corrections and the police. It lets people challenge decisions that affect them.

PATH uses administrative law to address issues like racist and sexist discrimination and to contest decisions made within the prison system.

PRISON LAW & ADVOCACY

After someone is sentenced and sent to prison, they often lose their access to legal help. PATH steps in to provide support by handling legal issues that people face while in prison.

PATH has a lot of experience in prison law and advocacy, especially with matters like parole, disciplinary hearings, and habeas corpus applications.

CIVIL LITIGATION

Civil lawsuits are used to take legal action (other than criminal charges) against people or organizations. PATH uses these lawsuits to hold institutions like the police and prisons responsible for unfair treatment.

PATH works to get fair compensation for their clients and, when possible, uses restorative justice practices to help create long-term positive changes.

CHARTER CHALLENGES

Canada's Charter protects basic rights and freedoms, including the right to be free from discrimination by the government.

PATH is skilled at starting Charter challenges against unfair laws and practices. In any area of law, PATH might use a Charter challenge to address issues.
